You don't want to restrict with fog, the whole pont is that the spectator can see both sides so he can enjoy/learn from the game.

Hell if your restricted with fog or just in a practice game I see no problem with it. My one concern is that I find people on steam have hoards of friends and can potentially have a friend on both sides and give one of them an advantage of they know them in real life. Kind of an unlikely scenario in match making but it's still there.

there's going to be a seperate coaching feature. SourceTV(dubbed Dota TV for this games) uses intentional delay for several reasons mainly to keep viewers from informing 1 team about the locations etc of the other team.

    More info: https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Source_TV

We already have a developer response asking for more information. That would count as a thought, at least in my book.

Directed should be able to work with no delay. Just teach the AI to notice things. Someone taking damage? look at that. Enemies in proximity to each other? Someone walking in direction of runes? Roaming jungle with one or more enemy mia or nearby? Does someone have an offensive skill/dagger/force staff pressed down and is hovering over or nearby an enemy (over self as well for force staff)? Plenty of other things it can take notice of.

If directed camera isn't acceptable due to it's delay, how about letting players in a party decide whether they will coach or not before hitting the matchmaking button? Coaches would physically be connected to the team they're on, yet wouldn't be able to pick a hero.

If they lock the fog when you are spectating your friend's game or any game... It can be acceptable...

"Real-time spectating" implies that you're spectating a game and can see all of the vision as well as all of the wards. I cannot endorse that. However, I can endorse the idea of limited visibility to the single hero that you're friends with; IE coaching mode.

It makes sense, and this is probably planned from the get go. As long as no weird bugs show up, it's not ghosting and can only help the game develop if friends can help friends while waiting for Matchmaking to queue. Maybe even something to do while they're waiting for their friend to finish up, rather than just simply spectating their game.

    This.
    10-15 would suck for coaching.

Of course, something like 10-15 seconds would be good.

If you really want to get into giving people a bunch of options, maybe allow anther option for real time spectating with no Director. So your choice for practice would be no spectating, normal spectating, low delay spectating, and "instant" with no director.

As long as you add fog so you can only see it from the friends team perspective for the entire game then there should be no problem. If you are watching dire and want to switch to radiant the game could just have you load for 2min for the normal delay. Should be able to switch back instantly too.
