I know twitch is a big thing and everything is twitch, twitch, twitch, these days.
But I prefer to watch games directly in the dota2 client.
Wouldn't it be awesome if dota2 had their own built-in twitch system, to allow players to submit their webcam feeds to be directly integrated into the dota2 client, so that if a player is streaming their webcam, I would be able to see the player's face at the bottom of my screen, where the hero portrait is normally located?
So I'd be watching the game in the dota2 client like a normal spectator... and I can switch from one player to another like a normal spectator can in the dota2 client, but with the added feature that I can now see the player's faces and hear them talking, if they happen to be streaming.
Wouldn't that be cool? Yes that would be cool. Very cool indeed.
Of course, the option to turn this off should be found somewhere easily accessible, in case someone doesn't want to see that.
But then you'd have to have all the server power on your own backend to record 2 minutes worth of video (since replays are delayed 2 minutes). That might be harder done than said. They can't host their own stream, because then you'd have to trust them to correctly delay the video by exactly two minutes, and most players probably can't be trusted to correctly do that.
Then you could also allow players to SELL this webcam stream in the dota2 client. Kind of like paying for a subscription to a tournament. Well, you could buy access to these feeds. Of course, players could make their feeds free. But if they charge for it directly in the dota2 client, Valve could pocket 50% of that money.
You could even put a donate button in there somewhere, allowing players to donate in-game items or even real money to players. Then players could actually start to look at the dota2 client as a way to make a living player dota2, through subscriptions to their webcam streams, and through donations.
You can thank me later for this amazing money making idea.
