  • Add option for LIVE spectating without any delay

and remove all enemy vision so that what you're seeing is exactly what the guy you're spectating is seeing, that way it's impossible to cheat and you can still watch someone and comment on their play in real time

make this an option in addition to the current spectator format, where you see everything but with a 2 minute delay

What about watching people in one team while your friend is in another?

Mentor mode will address this in the future I believe. Until then, this is a bad idea since you could watch people on the other team and tell your friend the details via any external chat program, like barteqr says.

It would only work on people in your steam friend's list, and you'd be locked into that team. The feature would only work on public matchmaking. I sincerely doubt the following chain of events would occur:

        - spectate friend
        - someone on enemy team just happens to be someone that you know
        - spectator throws the game by telegraphing movements to the person he knows, ruining the game for the person on his steam friend's list

The chances of this happening in public matchmaking are astronomically low.

Still there is a chance. Also, I don't see any need to a "live spectating" option. Au contraire, I support the change of the delay from 2 to 6 minutes.

If I am playing a match, I wouldn't like to know that one of my teammates can have a friend spectating the match on real time.

Just set it up like it is in HoN, where you can only spectate friends and they have to allow you to watch them play.

                  -1 I don't see any need. Even at live-events a delay of 2min doesn't matter

Sure, but why would someone on your friend's list deliberately ruin a game for you?

just because you have them on your friends list doesn't necessarily mean you like them

No, but you should at least be able to trust them. And if you can't say that much, then the "friend" in question shouldn't be on your list at all. Either way, the option would be left up to the person playing to "broadcast" it live, so if you don't want to alter your friends list, this feature wouldn't affect you.

Give a valid reason for their to be a Live spectator mode. Better yet, explain how we can implement it without ANY possibility of it being abused. If your friend is playing and your watching him live, Even without visibility of the other team, there are areas where you can keep an eye on Minimap for him, watching for enemy movement and possible ganks, while he or she may be busy trying to farm or kill/deny in a lane. Honestly i wholeheartedly -1 to this Idea, Theres just no viable reason TO have it, yet theres multiple instances NOT to have it. Plus i am 100% sure there will be MapHacks among other things, I just found a thread concerning one that got released on the 27th of march

So I had around ~250 friends at one time; removed quite a few and it is ~220 now. Most of them are from playdota forums and other dota related people. Just because I accepted their friend request means I have to trust everyone of them?

If you want LIVE, go mentor feature (when it is implemented).

Still a bad idea... And will not be rare to see someone spectating from the other team just to "map hack". T-Down, and should delay even further to like 10 seconds.
