  • [Suggestion] Extra Dota2 info window for casters and spectators with extra monitor

There is a lot of cool information available in the Dota 2 spectator interface, but accessing it covers up the screen and the action that is going on. I think it would be pretty helpful if Dota2 provided the option to open a second (customizable?) window that could be open in another monitor where you could see the minimap(resizable?)/gold graph/xp grap/kill,death,cs stats/combat log all at once so that you could have that information available during a match just by looking at the other screen.

I think this could be particularly useful to casters who may want the information, but not want to block their viewer's view of the action. Regular spectators would probably find it useful as well.

I think the starboard creators are already doing this with the minimap, but I think the other information would be awesome as well.

I was thinking about it and got this idea: what about a different in-game HUD for casters and spectators (integrated to the game of course) where you can find all the useful stuff from the game and also from the caster. I think it's not necessary to have the same in-game HUD that you have when playing when you are just being an spectator or casting/streaming a game.

Also, if someone doesn't want to see the caster's face for example you can just click for not-show/show the video/web cam transmission. I mean, an easily real time customizable in-game HUD for cast/watch a game (and could have this option even an in-game replay).

One of the major drawbacks of video stream compared to dotatv ist the fact that u only see what the caster is showing you. It is in some cases wrong in many cases just something u dont want to see because u find other parts/roles of the game more interessting because they fit your game role more. The overwiev menus are great as they are because they show u the full information and NOT the part that casters finds most interesting.
Adding ur suggested features would lead to casters which dont show this overview features at all and reduce the overall watchability of dota2 streams.

I disagree. I think this feature would make the cast better because the caster would have more information available with less effort or distration. This would translate to their description of the match being more informed. I am definitely not suggesting get rid of the overlay menus. Those would stay as an option, and if a caster is any good, they will still want to show the audience what is going on with the stats (because the caster wants to give the audience a good experience), but they would be able to do it selectively, when it is most interesting because they had pre-screened it on the off-screen display. How many times has a caster opened the gold graph only to see that it hasn't updated yet to reflect the most recent action? Now they can wait until it shows what they are expecting.

Also keep in mind that this feature would be useful for people just spectating using dotatv (which I hope can become the standard way to watch a match if you have dota2 installed). The caster doing the audio broadcast that they hear will have more information available, and the dotatv spectator can have the data on a separate screen instead of blocking the action any time they want to check the data. How great would it to have the running combat log (when it works, I'm not sure how fully functional this feature is, I haven't checked it lately) where you can just glance over and check out who killed who and how without having to open a window and then close it right away to make sure you don't miss anything?

I don't see how this could hurt anything, only how it could be helpful. I do agree with the other poster that the spectator HUD doesn't have to be exactly the same as the player HUD. Generally, HUD customization seems like a good thing.

I would definitely like this. Using a second screen and a greatly enlarged 'mini-map' while spectating. That would be so sweet.

yes, they don't necessarily have to show the data/screen during their cast, but it still would be helpful to use to provide information (talking) to spectators

and it'd just be awesome for dual monitor'd specs. i really hate to hit F keys and bring up tabs that cover half the screen while i'm watching a game, i could just leave them on the other screen and glance occasionally. this is easier and actually enhances your ability to keep up with what is going on in the whole game.
