  • Spectating Live Games Should Accrue Battle Points

I was thinking about it and there is no disadvantage to having people gain battle points for spectating games. It will raise the likelihood of people watching live games within the client, it will increase the number of viewers, and it will help those players benefit from trying to improve their play by watching others. Even if people are just watching live games then going AFK for the battle points, they are at least still in the client and viewing the games. It would also rope people into watching games when they can't play them, like if they're surfing the web at night or if they're on the go on their laptops. I think the system could definitely boost the viewers for live games and enhance game interest overall.

    Can anyone offer feedback?
(afterall, the longer Dota 2 is open on a laptop, the more likely someone else asks about it and tries it too)

So you want to give battle points for people watching a game for 5 seconds and then leaving the house to go to work, but leaving it running? I'm not a fan of that. It could probably be scripted too by someone more clever than me.

Shouldn't there be some incentive to spectate games rather than play them though? Maybe if there were even a limit to the points of 60 minutes per day. Having the spectator feature is pointless if people aren't ever willing to use it

I always spectate games, when it takes 7 minutes to que RD, I'll watch a bit of the top game. Do I deserve any battle points for it? Hell no I did absolutely nothing.

I watch games for entertainment and to improve by watching those better than myself (I know, hard to believe!). I don't need a reward for it.

No, I rather have no item cap per week than people idling all the time like they do on TF2. If people want to improve they don't need incentive besides the desire to improve. Valve doesn't need to award laziness and people won't be playing for fun or the hopes of getting items.
