People that buy tickets are directly supporting the tournament and supporters (depending on revenue model). There should be no ads at all if you buy a ticket.

How ever, I completely agree with advertising if dotaTV had a free-view option.

IMHO the paywall is quite excessive (if most of the tickets did not come with tournament items), but it is doing the exact job that ads would do, except with a far higher ROI. It would really suck having to pay to view ads.
The thread was opened in 2011, there were no tickets back then and dotatv was barely half done. Your opinion on the ppv vs ads is right, its logical, if you decide to pay you shouldnt see any ads. I doubt valve/tournament organizers would include both, paying wouldnt be attractive anymore. Still, i will edit your opinion in the OP, just to be sure^^

I would not like advertisment when playing, but when watching a game its ok. There is a great place for ads - quick buy section, it can be a foreground on graphs(exp/gold etc). If that would make watching tournaments cheaper(or no cost at all) that is great.

advertisment is only way how to make game/esports popular and profit on it. just look at sporst in tv, watching are free, advertisment pays it all. I dont know how long it will last until idiots from valve and other esport killing companies realize this. In the worst scenerio if they would ask micropayment per match, for example watching match for 10-50 cents, it would be not killing esport as much as it is now when u have to pay 5-8 euros for tournament where u will see only fckin 2 or 3 matches. Of course i am talking about dotatv ads not ingame.

There are already ads in the game, called sponsors. They appear in teams' flags and names.

Personally I'd prefer they streamlined the process, especially if it made it easier for companies to sponsor teams. I don't see the harm in having, say, a dedicated flag in the base for a team sponsor.

If there's ads in the game, I'm just going to find a way to block them, even if I have to edit game files. :\

So have i. I'll start by asking, how did people manage to download and install this game? did they add pictures? You guys can't even read the thread and realize this is needed for e-sports to grow.

Let's take it from the beginning. Streamers make money from ads. If we want high quality gaming and tournaments, money is needed. Money comes from ads. When enough people watch a stream continuously, the streamer gets some sort of deal with, lets say TwitchTV. They're making a living. Soon enough, when they get even more viewers, they get more money. They won't have to work, they can live off streaming.
We'll see more teams, better teams and better players in general as they've got more time to spend on gaming (think football, icehockey or whatever big sport out there).

Now, in dota2, there's this thing called DotaTV. It allows you to spectate games directly ingame, and you're able to control your own camera, watch whoever you'd like to watch and so on. They've got the option to have up to 4 different broadcasters (preferably in different languages to reach a broader audience). IF you want to listen to one of the broadcasters, you've got the option to simply change the audio channel to theirs, and you've got a broadcaster, ingame, casting live while you STILL have the option to look around all you want. You lazy? no problems, use the directed camera which will be looking for you whenever there's a chance for some action. Want to watch through a players perspective? no problems! there's and option for that to.

The problem with DotaTV is NOT that valve ain't making no money out of it (all you dumb idiots out there thinking this has anything to do with valve can refer to the "did they add pictures" part). The STREAMERS, the GAMERS and the god damn BROADCASTERS are the ones who's gonna lose money and a living (that THOUSANDS enjoy watching right now) 'cause DotaTV do not support any kind of income for them (yet). IF they could add ad's ingame, that ain't flashy or whatever you kids are afraid of, we're gonna see better GAMERS, better BROADCASTERS and better TEAMS. We'll end up with BIGGER and BETTER tournaments 'cause sponsors sees their chance to get their name and their brand out there.

Yes, i agree, there should not be ads that disrupts the game for us spectators, but you fucking retards don't realize there won't be any tournaments AT ALL unless those sponsors manage to get some sort of advertisement. And believe you me, the good old days with normal streams over TwitchTV or whatever is gonna take such a huge blow when Dota2 goes live it's ridicoulus. Why would i EVER want to watch, say, the international on a stream when i've got the option to watch it ingame, listen to tobi's awesome cast, and make sure i don't miss no god damn first blood.

Now i'm sure there's still gonna be normal streams, and for you ad-blocking pieces of shits out there that want to watch streams without ads will probably still be able to do so at joindota. But for the majority of us that want's e-sports to grow, and don't want to be in the way of the future, will be watching in-game, and we sure as hell won't mind a logo in the rosh-pit, if that's what it takes for e-sports to grow. Thank god i live in a country where regulare TV has made a deal with DH (Dreamhack) to stream some of the content on TV. That my friends, is fucking progress. And when our public TV that most people has, realize this shit's for real, I'm gonna support it to 100%.

Like if someone was casting a tournament game. I could join up and spec it. Get audio, what the caster is looking at, etc. I would also like to be able to select from the spectator menu from "Caster perspective" to "Player" or "Hero chase" "free" etc. Cause sometimes I want to click on things or watch something else why I watch a tournemant game from a caster.

If there were 2 different casters on a match or could switch between their perspectives.

I think there is a lot of potential with specator mode to increase the value proposition of watching a stream of casters/players.

I would support ads in a ingame "streaming" type enviroment where I can just follow someone game to game automatically with audio either casting or playing.
The options ingame right now are: 4 broadcasting channels, you can jump between them as you want to and hear their broadcast. You've got directed camera (follows actions, you won't have to do shit), player perspective (chose whoever you want to watch, and you'll see exactly what he sees, you'll even see his mouse), free camera and hero chase. You also have the option to follow whatever caster you want to watch, and see exactly what he's looking at.
