  • Casters Voices too Quiet?

Is it just me? It seems the casters voices are being strongly overshadowed by the in game sound effects.

Going into audio and changing the game volume also lowers the volume of the casters, Is there any way to fix this problem? Its making me regret my purchase of the livestreams, I have trouble hearing enough as it is.

Yes, even with voice receive volume maxed the game sounds are louders than the casters.

Also, I think Sayuri's voice doesn't seem to always trigger the (minimum?) open mic threshold Tobi is using. While watching the stream her voice is fine, but in-game the sound cuts out every now and then even mid-sentence possibly because of this.

At this moment in time the "game volume" setting also affects affects the microphone volume, think of it as a master volume.

This is something they'll probably address in the future. (I hope)

That would be pretty great, coz the Ingame sound is much louder than casters are... separated Volume would be best!

There already is a separate slider, "Voice Receive Volume" which also affects the mics.

It's just a case of uncoupling the game volume and mics.

y sure but there is no possibility for turning off ingame sounds and just listen to Voicechat or caster... thats what i mend.. if i pull down the game Volume the mic Volume is tuned down.too.

Registered just to support this thread. This issue has been the only thing that has made me unsure if I want to buy anymore tournament tickets in the future. It's quite annoying, during battles the casters are sometimes barely audible cause of all the loud ass sound effects. Not only that but it's just off putting for someone with sensitive ears like myself, sensory overload. Luckily Tobi tends to scream during battles so at least he is somewhat audible lol. Pretty much every other game has a separate slider just for sound effects, for good reason.

I couldnt even hear any of the casters last night.

Yeah there seems to be a problem with the audio being transmitted at all currently when viewing on Dota TV. Tobi's voice wasn't going through at all to us in game, however on his stream you could see that his in game mic was lit up the whole time. You could hear him in 1 second intervals every so often then that was it. His Mic threshold for voice activation was also set properly.

There should be option to adjust volume of caster voice separately from all other voices/sounds.

Well I can hear Tobi so far tonight (although its a touch quiet). Cuts out a lot still though.

Posted this in another thread, but seems relevant here too.

There is also a setting called voice_scale (it's the same one as you can find in Audio Settings, but its maximum there is 1), but I haven't really figured out how to use it well, as it makes the sound quality pretty bad when you increase it.
I don't know how this affects outgoing voice, as I don't use it ingame myself, but it works very well for incoming voice (like when listening to casters).

+1 support, I bought The Defense ticket and can't make out the casters from the game sounds, especially when there is a hero with a lot of bass in his effects, like frost nowa.

When I turn my game sound up it feels like my ears will start to bleed any moment.

                            I'm support this as well.

The caster voice must be louder than game sounds. Especially things like Ursa's rage etc.

That been said, I must congratulate the work on DotaTV. After this last update all things (except the volume) are running smoothly.

+1. There's no way to listen to live commentary ATM, the game is much louder than the commentators even with 'Voice receive' bar maxed out.

EDIT: workaround: `voice_minimum_gain 5` in console.
