  • Tournament Stream Features Suggestions

Being a longtime fan of SC:BW and SC2 and watching avidly here are some suggestions for "event" watching. DOTA TV is very good right now for ingame speccing but as far as the interface goes for events (only talking ingame, not event coverage like player cams / crowd cams etc)

This is mainly aimed at ESPORTS events and "bigger shows" as more production can go into these where dedicated camera operator or producers/directors can be used.

Instant Replay Feature: After any death an instant replay event is saved. This allows the Producer/Camera operator (say tobi for small self ran events) to replay the last kill. This could be a popup, full screen etc. Basically allows a quick replay of any kills/events. For this a "director" mode might be awesome that lets you really control the camera / ingame coverage, so for instance the director could swap between the replay and ingame quickly and view both etc.

Possibly allow an on the fly replay to be created that can be quickly ff/rewinded etc to key points, then tournament organizers with the manpower can have another computer with this mode enabled, and switch to it for replays of recent events.

Automated Highlight Feature: Take all high kill / death / roshan / rax / tower kills and "save/record" those moments. Allowing an automated quick highlight reel to be created. . Basically the idea is to give events more content that can be used quickly. Technically it could possibly be built into replays(?) by keeping timestamps for when action takes place and quickly going through those points?

ex: Semifinals just finished, finals is starting in 15 minutes. 8 minutes watching both highlight reels from semifinals, then 5 minutes for pregame interviews, then 2 minutes for final preperation. It basically would give organizations, streamers, etc a quick way to upload high action content. This could also be done for normal replays (aka switch to highlight mode) and be used for youtubers/quickly watching a match.

when watching replays a lot of people already fastforward anyways through dull points.

EVENT UI: THis is a UI designed for EVENTS and tournaments.
    • No UI bars/etc just show gamespace. Designed for stream viewing. aka IN DEFAULT mode, just a minimap in bottom left, and at top the normal 5 v5 heroes but no UI besides the essential (aka the bar at top is gone)
    • Skill popup: aka when clicking on a hero his skills/items and a much larger lh/deny and kda screen + portrait pops up at bottom, but NO UI panels etc, so to the sides / below is gamespace.
    • "LH / Deny, KDA, GPM, Current Gold" shown for each player with a TICKER, aka stock ticker, so instead of forcing a camera controller to pop up blocky menus that look bad even at 1080p, a larger but changing tally for each hero is given.
    • Portrait popup during voices, IF a hero says something on screen to a person in event mode, the portrait pops up in bottom left screen next to the UI furing the phrase. This helps casters also know when to stop talking if they want to do so.
    • ALERTS to low hp heroes next to their portrait at top, if they EVENT UI is not near them. For instance a hero is losing health rapidly, and the camera is across the map, a ! will appear below their portrait.
    • Ad servings in bottom right, rotating through any event sponsors.

    Far future
Integrate full tournament streams into dota TV with embedding of video into Dota tv. Aka I can load up dota 2 , click watch WDC, and it will take me to an embedded video stream of the venue, Ill watch the pregame action / interviews/ crowd then it goes into DOTA TV seemlessly and I watch ingame with small video embeds to the bottom/sides I can resize of player cams. After the game it switches back into a full video stream of the venue / post match etc. With ads / sponsors done in Dota TV.

Basically pull full coverage into dota 2 itself. Even having a "Spectator mode" (if its not free) for people to watch. With optional normal video streams

I think if anything, a cool kill cam would determine if your death timer is more than 5-10 seconds then would give you a rewinded replay of the 5 or so seconds leading up to your death with fog disabled (so you can see people coming in through the jungle or whatever led to your death).

But Kill Cam seems pretty unnecessary to begin with.

This is for tournament coverage. I'm not 100% sure how they would implement it if they did (it's probably the sketchiest suggestion out of the lot), but something a director could switch to in order to show off a kill that the camera might have missed or just to replay a big teamfight.

i realy dont think there should be to much movement in the interface, there is no point in switching the hero gui on and off, the information is always useful and a hero i always selected

UI disabling could be on a hotkey, if a caster want to cast a clash without noticing and commenting spell cooldowns, he can turn the UI on and off, FEW times during the game
