  • Tournament tickets and why I think they are a scam

I've bought most of the tournament tickets, those I feel have games worth watching. Recently Starladder went over to Season 4 and I would say that 80% of the games have been watchable ingame while 20% have not been, mostly due to TobiWanKenobi streaming them. Could someone with knowledge please let me know why we aren't able to watch them?

Also I almost forgot to write my point. I think they're a scam because alot of casters decide to not allow spectators or whatever they need to do so the game is visible on the Live tab for us with ticket.

I don't know if there is some specific eula or tos about casting tournaments. But agreed, the casters shouldn't be able to gather the cream top of the games we pay to see and they only stream and get ad-revenue. But fact boils down to that the ticket allows you/me to watch any gmae in the series and observe them our own way. I usually just follow the hero I am interested watching and let the caster follow the general going of the game.

They aren't a direct scam but boprderline.

Hell you could say hockey/football tickets are scam because the games are broadcast on TV. But that is a stupid reasoning. You pay for the ticket to see what you want to see, not what is shown to you. I have had lot of issues with SC2 casters missing things I want to see in casts. The ticket fixes that.

But I still don't agree on the fact that casters can get ad-revenue from their streams and VoDs from games others pay to see.

Like I said I have no idea of the legal bounds in the cast games, but the current system seems fishy.

But one thing I would like to see added to the tickets is remaining games/weeks/days etc. left on the tournament instead of me having to go outside to 3rd party site to find out.

Keep the tickets just change the system and legal terms.

        You sure?

I think I'm able to watch every Starladder game ingame. Can you give an example what game you cannot watch?
And TobiWan has nothing to do with Starladder (besides providing english commentary) so I doubt that he is able to choose that no spectators are allowed.

Some research before calling a scam does not hurt.
Besides the Starladder Season 4 ingame tickets are not out yet.

Why I think its a scam because even though the tournament is over you still need to purchase the tournament to watch replays. How is that not retarded?

So when Thanksgiving is over, retailers should give out the remaining turkeys for free or else it's a scam?

For example I just bought a ticket which i assume is for the latest matches then find out after i get the ticket that tournament wasplayed on july. Pls someone make tickets more intuitive so that the consumers like me dont buy tickets for stuff that alrady happened and why are the tickets full price? Do I get Drops for watching a replay tournament sold as a brand new ticket? The ticket is Asia Madness and I guess they are just in Alphabetical order

This is a new thing for everyone, and it's developing. My only problem with the system is that none of these organizers seem to do any risk/value analysis on them. Take the G-1 league. 8 DOLLARS? By charging $1, you would probably have more than 8x the buyers and get your league more exposure.

My point is give it a bit of time, and we'll start to see reasonable charges and coverage, as long as we stand up as consumers and say "no, this ain't gonna fly."

Edit: Agree with Ultrakiller. There should be a separation between "Current" and "Completed" events.

First things first, it's not a scam, but only a fuckup by the casters.
And second, be glad that you get to view S4 with your S3 tickets, the reason why you get to watch them, is because S4 ticket is not out yet.

LOl are you braindead or just drunk. I guess you never followed Dota 1 Competitively. Players and Users either watched streams which was rare or they would download the replays after on gosugamers. FOR FREE i might add. I still have to pay money to watch tournaments that happened 5 months ago. Your point is invalid

Do i need to remind you that you had to wait like at least 6 months for the replays from the Chinese leagues to be released? And sometimes, they wouldn't even be released.

It's not a Scam obviously but enabling Season 3 viewing made alot of people purchase those ( including me ) and now they launch SEASON IV tickets.

Seriously doesn't make any sense. I myself purchased 1 for a friend as well.

Main reasons i prefer Valve rather discontinue the Ticket once the season is over and a new one is COMING IN.

It's not a scam, it's simply an option you have. Some people prefer viewing games in the client because they have more control over what they are watching (like going free camera, player perspective, or the switching around the game stats on demand). Personally, i like to watch pro games in client, because I feel that I learn more by watching certain things during a game. Instead of being at the mercy of the caster's will on a stream, though you still have that option from viewing in game.

                            To each his own.
