  • DotA2 Replay Denied.

I'm trying to several replays to my friend for him to work on video. I mostly play inhouse leagues and therefore most of my replays are privately hosted. It seems like if he is not a player in the game, access is denied. An example of the one of many replays is the match ID 339358865. If this is intended, I believe it should be changed, as it would be detrimental to a video project we have in the works.

Can't you just send him your replay file or does the in-game client prevent him from viewing a replay of a privately-hosted lobby game that he was not a part of?

Yes, it appears it does. I've sent him my replay and it denied him access.

Bump. This is serious. I really wanna get started on this project.

Friend sent me a replay and same thing happened.
Searching for the match id from recent game sdid not allow me to view it either

why is this access restriction in effect?
is it to protect the "privacy" of other people by preventing others from seeing them play?
pretty sure if we go to the trouble of downloading the replays ourselves, or manually paste the replay into the replays folder, it is important to us.

if it's to prevent new players from having their bad games plastered to their faces by others, then why does flaming still runs rampant? who would anyone go to the length of downloading other people's replays just to prove their incompetence?
the denied access to see downloaded replays is definitely not a good feat to have, for many of us actually takes the time to download other people's replays of notably good (or horrendously bad, even) to improve ourselves.

            It's very unnecessary imho :/
