  • Replayfunctions in general are trash right now

First: You cannot see Private Game Replays from other players
That is bothering me the most right now. Why can't you just enable such a feature? It would improve Dota 2 a lot, since being able to watch Replays from professional games was common in DotA 1. I have no idea why you cannot do it now.

Second: Directed Cam is only for 80% good
It misses a lot of stuff, when things are going on simultaneously. There should be something like a mini cam show casing other scenes, which happen at the same time and you are free to switch between them.

Third: Missing model parts while watching replays
    Should be done something here

Fourth: Replays should be easier accessible
You go on Watch Tab > Recent Games > You can filter for replays <_> Too much moving around. And there should be a general replay ranking for all games. Like most downloaded last week, last month, all time etc.

Fifth: More camera functions for replays
To improve movie Editing.. was suggested numerous times.. it was once possible:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLV6GYJOi7Q

But was removed after wards <_<

Point 1: Should be easily done.
    Point 2: Needs time
    Point 3: Needs time
    Point 4: Go for it
Point 5: There was such a function, was disabled <_<

"Trash" is too harsh. They are a work in progress and I'm quite impressed with the current state, especially what they've done in the past few months with them. Yes, they aren't perfect, but they are getting improved regularly. For example, being able to jump 5 seconds prior to a kill from the last patch.

Too bad I cannot watch the most interesting replays, since it was a private game <_> And no one needs this function when all good replays are disabled for everyone. I don't wanna watch public, I wanna watch competitive games in general, same as in DotA. The whole competitive scene in DotA did focus on replays, but I cannot watch them which pretty much fails? And I am pretty sure, that something like watching private games could have been enabled like some months ago.... but yeah, still waiting.
Instead we have a useless "we can jump five seconds ahead of a kill".

It's not a useless feature at all. In fact, I was using it earlier today.

I agree that private matches would be good, but I'm not sure if Valve will have the storage capacity for all games. The tournaments in particular it would be great to watch, but that doesn't help the sponsors who are streaming the games and funding the tournament. Maybe if there was an option in setting up the private game of whether to make it publicly available or not? Also, it would only be 5v5 games of course.

You could watch VoDs and in the same time the replays. So you can move the camera in the replay and you can listen to the audio of the VoD!! The VoDs gets their views and people will be able to watch replays.

And besides what do you have when you watch VoDs? Entertainment, nothing more. The people casting focus just on actions, but I want to know what one player f.e. does the whole game, how he farms with that hero, how he moves his hero around the map etc.. You need replays available to check something like that and to improve yourself with that.

but I'm not sure if Valve will have the storage capacity for all games
There are 20 times more Matchmaking games then private games! All MM games are stored, private games not. Who cares for storage capacity....

Just in case: v1lat who kinda organizes the StarLadder wants to have replays, but he cannot share them due to VALVe disabling them completely.

Sad fact: If a spectator observes a tournament game, he won't have access to the replay he just watched. That is very sad.

And I agree with that only 5vs5 games should be shown. Bot games are already disabled.

you wont get competitive replays unless the organizers release them

they earn money through people watching their videos and vods not by releasing replays.

the more money they earn the more dota 2 tourneys you get, now stop being a cry baby.

They do not even have replays. So even if they wanted to release it like v1lat, THEY SIMPLY CANT !

they earn money through people watching their videos and vods not by releasing replays.
Thats bullshit. They just cant release it since they cannot obtain it. Adding to that just some patches ago VALVe started to record replays from private games, before there weren't even any!

the more money they earn the more dota 2 tourneys you get, now stop being a cry baby
Don't invent things unless you have reliable informations. Thanks a lot. And I could tell you tons of reasons why VoDs are bad and replays better. As long as you still have the courage to reply

i already know replays are better than vods.

BUT organisers earn their money through streaming, ads on their websites, VODS, etc NOT through replays. dont believe me? go ask any shout caster out their how they earn a living - tobi wan, purge, vilat, luminous.

every tournament disables the spectator function in the game lobby because they want you to watch their streams and vods.

unless valve figures out a way to support in game advertisement on the replays, dota tv for tournament matches not organiser would ever use those features for their matches.

I am NOT talking about Dota TV, I dont care about that!

But afterwards they can release the replays. Why? Because all replays are uploaded on Youtube and own3d/twtich. own3d + twitch doesnt get any money from Youtube, so it does not matter, if a replay is available or not. There are no cons, just pros. Adding to that you CAN watch the replay AND listen to the VoD!

+1, in dota1 all tournament replays were released pretty much instantly except some chinese one's.

There have been more Private games (including bot games) than normal MM games.
All MM replays are only stored for 30 days, just as your private replays.
If Valve wanted to store all replays of all matches since the beginning, they would need anywhere between 80 and 500 Terrabytes of storage, which even for a company as Valve, is expensive (the amount of replays will only grow as the game becomes more popular, but the demand for stored old replays is very low, so they would lose alot of money storing them for 'nothing').

What concerns tournaments: as slowreflex said, tournaments rely on their ads + adrolls during Vods, if they would lose those, there would be less tournaments and the Dota community wouldn't be growing as much as it was now.

The simple fact you have defined the current replay functions, which have been praised by critics and players alike, as "trash" deserves a -1 imo.

                        Thus; -1

It is definitely awesome, and better than any replay system in either Dota 1, LoL, and HoN, and doesn't deserve a random "trash" attribute by a random player.

You cannot watch Private games because they're exactly what they are. Private. Deal with it. A tournament match is still a Private match mate. Valve has nothing to do with this. Move along.
