Making replays available might make business slightly harder for sites like joinDota.com, because a many people would choose to watch the in-game replay rather than the VoD -- and so with fewer viewers, they might get fewer sponsorship deals, and thus host fewer tournaments... and so on.

So the issue is a two-edged blade, but ultimately I think it would be better to save all tournament replays.

Hey, if the sponsorship problem is the main reason for not saving tournament replays, perhaps the tournament organizers could use some kind of system where only paid members get access to the in-game replays or something like that. ie. The host of the game would choose whether the replay was public or not, and they could give private replays to people of their choosing. They might choose to live-stream the game, with commentary and advertising, but then give in-game replay access to paid subscripbers as a bonus. (Such a business model wouldn't possible with the current dota functionality... I'm just brainstorming.)

should definitely be implemented. replay watching made dota1 so good. back in eswc 2008, smm 2008, smm 2009, and eswc 2010. it was all over garenatv, and replay sharing, none of that forced streaming. there's so many things that streamers miss, and even if not, i want the freedom to watch what i want.

    valve please look into this!

    very agree with this thread..
tournament replays on dota 1 are much better than dota 2 so fix it
    its just a simple thing..
enable the tournament replays, so the skills of dota 2 player can be improved also...
if the live games of a tournament is disabled.. i think downloading the replay is more than enough

One of the big issues with the casting scene for Dota 2 is that it is nearly impossible to get into. This is due to the limitation that is placed on casters by the replay system. Being able to cast scrims or tournament games would be a very good way for the casting scene for Dota 2 to grow. If the casting scene grows that means that Dota 2 gets more free advertisement and more players will join.

With the current system you have to have an organization behind you in order to even have a hope of casting a tournament or a scrim. There are too many blocks stopping new casters.

So how do we know if developers are reading it and at what point should i stop pushing this?

League games (especially league games) are private. If they weren't then they would never get started because people would be flooding the lobby. The consequence of that means making the games private is mandatory, and as such, we don't have public access to the replays. Until a system or alternative is developed for this then, as i said, tough luck.
I thought we are discussing replays in this thread. So, let's try again:
League games' replays shouldn't be private.

Should be a switch in private games to allow replays that is enabled by default. I think that's the closest you'll get to this.

Unfortunately this seems to be true.

The question is if it is possible to have some option of hosting the game version linked to an automatic pool of saved "public-made" replays. (e.g. Tournament version)

And yes, I do realize that its not that simple ... Just saying, it would be freakin sweet if somebody would come up with some idea to make it possible...

    @Yoshi-
www.hltv.org <- CS 1.6 website. You can download demos as soon as the game is finished. Doesn't matter if it is LAN or online competition. This is how EVERY COMPETITIVE GAME should be like.
The reason why some games don't have all the replays is because it's not automatic, but players or someone who was spectator has to save that replay and upload it for other users. Since, DOTA2 has automated way of saving replays/demos, I don't see the reason why we aren't able to download those.

Is it really necessary to swear and basically ridicule somebody who is bringing up an actual constructive idea?
