  • Suggestion: Instant replay button

When I'm watching replays, I often want to watch an engagement several times to figure out exactly what's going on. While I can click on the timeline to back up the replay, when the game is an hour long small clicks lead to huge jumps in the amount of time that I rewind. It would be super awesome if there was a button that you could click that would rewind the replay 15 seconds.

    Possible uses:

Catching that first blood that you missed
Studying a teamfight in slow motion with your team
    Replaying a big play
Watching a play with fog of war from one team, then the other in succession
Teaching (this is a big one, when explaining stuff to new players I tend to go over small segments of games they've played and talk them through what each person is thinking during a fight.

Anyhow, maybe you guys will consider this for the future. Thanks!

    Here you go

    http://dev.dota2.com/showthread.php?p=414608#post414608

    I bound "-" "+" to +/-8 sec and "[" "]" to +/-30 sec. Cheers.

Console Command :: "demo_goto X relative" where X is ticks to change replay time by (there are 30 ticks per sec, so 30*seconds). For example, 300 for 10 sec forward, -300 for 10 sec backward.

Curious though, how are you watching replays with people? Are you just synchronizing your game clocks?

Wow, that script is awesome! If anyone doubts that this is a worthwhile addition to the replay UI, give it a shot.

I generally have been introducing people to dota in person. We'll go and play a game, then I'll sit next to them and we'll go through the replay slowly so I can discuss what's going on. I also watch a lot of my own replays after games while waiting for the next one to come around. If you ever want a really easy way to improve, just watch your early game lane stage from your opponents fog of war and think about what you would do if you were the guy playing against yourself. You'll quickly find areas of your game to work on.

Watching replays over LAN would be awesome too, but I'm sure that's on a list somewhere already :P.
