  • [Suggestion] Rework/remove tournament paywall

I firmly believe that adding a price barrier for watching tournament games is detrimental to the development of Dota 2 as an eSport. I understand that charging for tickets allows a certain amount of freedom for tournament organizers from sponsorship, but if it comes at the cost of dramatically reduced viewer numbers then doesn't this really just miss the point? It would certainly be counter-productive for classical sponsors, who rely or large audience sizes to generate advertising and goodwill from their investment. Personally I like to occasionally watch a professional game to learn from them, but now every tournament I click on has a entry price that I am simply not willing to pay to watch one or maybe two games. I am really impressed with the spectator system in Dota 2 and do not want to be forced back to YouTube, as such I suggest the following:

    Either

    -Remove the paywall system

    Or

-Keep the paywall system for live games and embargo the replays for some arbitrary unit of time (1 week?), after which they are available freely
-Add a filter to the tournament browser to allow us to search for free entry tournys

    Thankyou for your attention.

If you don't want to pay to watch the games you don't have to. joindota and other sites offer tournament games streamed for free in high quality. The benefit of buying the ticket is that you can watch where you want to watch during the game and can toggle the gold/exp graphs in the client.

This is something you should take to regular sponsors (like roccat, razer, gigabyte etc) and tournament organizers. Valve has very little to do with this issue.

I like being able to contribute to tournament organisers for access to the in-game client. Could always go to any of the streams for a live view or to joindota's channel etc to watch a replay. Low viewership numbers on tournaments I would expect is due to the fact that there's so frigging many or timezone issues.
