I just solved this while doing the EMS Road to Finals videos. First i extracted the basechat.res and hud_base.res from pak01_dir.vpk using GCFScape. Its located in \resource\ui. I've kinda set enabled and visible to "0" in every part of the basechat.res and did the same for hero portraits at hud_base.res + the minimap. For some strange reason the portrait only got removed by removing the chat lines (which doesnt even hide it) and removing the minimap. After this i just started up the game with -override_vpk and it worked.

I have been looking into recording replays, and have learned most of the commands. I also know that since the recent dota 2 updates, it is impossible to remove the portrait from the HUD if u want the names to be there too.

So, How can the youtubers such as DotaCinema record without the Hero Portrait ? Is there a method to remove the hero portrait or do they have other methods ?

PS. i don't like the cropping method, it reduces a tire of resolution and i cant afford to do that on a already low res. BUT I DID SEE that the recent dotacinema video was NOT cropped, the announcement was centered !

    Thanks in advance.
