Before the diretide update there was two functionally different friend lists, the one on the main menu and the popout one. The main menu one seems to have been made universal, replacing the old pop out, which is unfortunate because now their is now way to see friends in lobbies via the friend list. Previously, with the pop out menu, you could see friends in lobbies in the same way you can see friends in parties, bundled together in a group. If they lobby was in progress you could click to watch it, and perhaps most importantly, if it hadn't started yet you could click the join lobby button and hop in (after entering a password if needed). Now any friends in lobbies that haven't started yet have the deceptive "main menu" status and friends in started lobbies are scattered so you can't tell who is playing with who. As someone who has been playing Amateur/Recreational Dota leagues for that past 3 years the removal of this feature is super frustrating to me and many of my peers. It seems more like an oversight than an intentional removal and we would love to see it returned to the game. Overall the new UI looks pretty slick but the removal of the aforementioned features makes it feel like a massive downgrade.
