  • zooming out further

not really something necessary but my comp screen is pretty big and i was just wondering what other people might think of the option to zoom out further. currently the default map size w/o zooming in displayed is good, but i was wondering if there could be an option to increase that area or "zoom out" for those people who might want it.

I reckon you'll find very much of what others think about this using the forum search function . In short the maximum area viewable is something that is probably going to be kept constant for actual games as a means of keeping things fair between systems - it's a tossup on whether this may be implemented for viewing matches/replays.

In order to keep a fair and balances game, the view of the playable map area must be constant across all systems, otherwise the better computer has a very distinct, measurable and noticable advantage. This is the case with most RTS's. For instance, in SC2s development, there were a ton of slight modifications to the zoom in order to find the ideal situation. Even now it is thought there is an imbalance because people with higher resolution have a large area of view. But short of forcing everyone to play on certain resolutions you gotta draw the line somewhere...
