  • [Suggestion] Make the out-of-game client less obtrusive.

    I. Make the Dota 2 client a resizable window that launches games in a resolution/window size of your choosing (full screen).
II. Make it so having Dota 2 open doesn't lock your other Source/Steam games.

I played a certain dotaclone for about a year between '10-'11. Putting the actual gameplay aside, one of the big upsides to this dotaclone is its client: an unobtrusive program that I tended to have running at all times (like Steam). Whether I was working, watching a movie, playing something else, or randomly browsing - I was also sitting in the game's chat channels with my teamliquid bros, and was available to be invited for a queue or IH at any time. Even people I didn't know well enough to consider a friend would grab me for a round or two. If a tournament was going, the channel became live report central while we watched the stream. All the action happened within the game itself, and encouraged me to keep playing.

My point: if Dota 2's client didn't take up my whole screen (or if windowed mode didn't run the game windowed as well), and having it open didn't interfere with my other Steam programs, I'd inevitably have it running more often, just like I invariably run Steam whenever my computer is on. This would get me more involved in chat channels as I watch streams, and encourage spontaneous pick up games. I would play more Dota 2 because of this. I think many others would do the same.

    Whaddaya think?

Why not? I can't see any possible downside to this.
