  • Dashboard Feedback by X3G

Now before i started on what needs to be improved, i want to say that i am happy to see that valve is taking the step to make a new dashboard to appeal to the feel of the game more and bring something new to the table.

    However......

Lets start on the main screen..
(Things in bold is what i personally think needs improvement the most)

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are a few things i find need improvements
-settings button is too small, same with exit button
-the gradient in the background is not working well at all
-snapshot of forest is too pinkish
-fire makes it seem more busy
-background in general needs to be improved to something more simple

-placement of boxes dont seem to fit right
-in each box, the buttons for extened information (like win/loss, players online, chat room boxes, etc.) have akward placement and are in times too small
    -extended information feels boxed in
-I have no problems with the new sounds, i like them, except for the sound the dashboard makes when you click on a button
    -sound lasts too long
-extra grain in the end doesn't fit right

-i like that they decided to show off their blog on the main menu, but i think there should be a few changes to that
    -should take up more space
-should make a shorter version of the blog and when clicked on, loads a web page to the full blog
-i feel as if the font on the top bar for the main navigation shouldn't be yellow
-the two spheres on the UI top bar dont seem to fit right/makes it look more clutterd
-the spacing in between the UI boxes doesnt seem to fit right
-Dota 2 logo needs better placement

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now for this one i think im being a little too picky, but it might just be me, but...

-new watch menu seems to simple
-avatars of the heroes the players are using seems very small
    -watch button should be bigger
    -needs more design into it

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I generally like this new menu, except for a few things...

-Matchmaking settings need to be spread out more and placed better
-UI needs more design into it
-location dot feels weird(aka the dot that shows the region)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A few things that i think should be added to the dashboard are

-a tab for your profile rather than clicking on your name
-being able to view item shop in learn tab(as suggested in other threads)
-clicking on dota 2 logo brings you to the today tab

There is room for improvement, but i think valve has the right idea to change the Dashboard, but the quickness and simplicity of the old dashboards was very well done and has a classic feel to it. Valve should find a way to take the quickness and simplicity of the old DB and implement it into the new DB while have a new look to it.

The pink background makes it feel too girly, too... pink in my opinion. The background picture itself is awesome but not with the pink overlay.
I also support X3G's suggestion for "a tab for your profile rather than clicking on your name" and I would also like this tab being the home tab ( but that's probably just me ).
Either way, overall it's a nice change although I'd love a settings option to change back to the old dashboard.

I personally find those three negatives you describe, as positives.
I don't know about you, but I really liked them. Makes a dark, mysterious and magical atmosphere, which deep in you creates an urge to play. I find it amazing.
And I love the fire, which burns below, lovely.
          Thank you for reading this!

When you put it that way it doesn't seem so bad, either way its just personal opinion which everyone is entitled to =]

I love the new dashboard from the images I've seen.

I'm sure I'll hate it once I login and use it for a few weeks (Change is bad), then be indifferent to it in a few months. Love to see new work on the UI (assuming SD/RD are improved from before), now if we could just get swap and a tutorial I would call this shit release ready.

Hey guys. with this new dashboard, does it still let you see your losses/abandons? thanks for the reply.

i love the new ui and i really love the fire on the bottom it doesnt hurt and it looks really nice

the forest i think looks good with the color that it is but i guess if its not manly enough they could make it into a more blood red maybe

i think they use a good amount of space and it seems to be designed to scale towards smaller and non wide screen resolutions which if i understand alot of dota players might need

i dont like the hero picker much i would much prefer the one that was suggested on the fourms by Mcccelvs (http://dev.dota2.com/showthread.php?t=36640)

apparently not according to some people.

I'm not a big fan, personally ilike the old dashboard better. I also have that internet page as my homepage on internet explorer. if i want to go on the internet i will do that.

I do like the background (pink a bit of bad choice imo), but I don't like the big internet explorer box.

How about this Valve, how about opening the dashboard up with a big dota screenshot of some sort. Something like in dota 1's loading screen. Then users can click on tabs to bring up various options.
