You want some SPAM? Just look at the chat!

It cant go on like this. It is realy annoying.
    My suggestion:
    Make a Spamfilter
    - you cant write the same sentence 2 times
    - you can only write 1 sec. apart
    - if a spam is detected - this perosn cant write for 10 sec.
    - if a user spams ALL-DAY he get a bad matchmaking

Now Valve could argue- in some way the loose customers or something.
Why dont make a "Trade-Room" where u can see what somebody offers and what he want for that.
Maybe with a nice little search function.

    -sorry for my bad English

I like the spam detenction and the temp ban from chat, good idea. We really need some spam prevention

This is the best suggestion i've seen yet.

Yeah, this is ridiculous. There's absolutely no reason to even have a chat room if this spam isn't going to be prevented somehow. It actually causes my game to lag on the home screen, which just shouldn't happen.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure the OP's suggestion will work as written. People will just write scripts to post one of 30-50 different sentences, and the spam detection won't catch them. With a more complex implementation, this might work, but I think the real solution would just be to have people instantly suspended from chat for an hour if X people report them within Y timeframe, and they've made Z recent posts in general chat.

IT works very well in other games I have played. You cannot type more than two posts in chat. Any more and it asks you to wait. If you continue to spam it sends a message to stop or get banned. It isn't that hard to do. The real answer though is to have few chat channels and have those channels moderated...humans are far better at spam detection than bots.
