  • Left click to report....why?!?!

I think it has been an accepted standard for MANY years now what right click and left click are supposed to do. So right clicking in item in the inventory opens up the huge item options, but, to report a player you have to LEFT click in the scoreboard. This doesnt make sense. This game has got to have one of the most non intuitive, non user-friendly, badly designed interface I've ever seen. And btw, is it too much to ask to have an "accept" or "cancel" button in the menus like EVERY GAME IN THE WORLD has, and for a good reason???

Constructive criticism is the word you are looking for, I suppose.

what would be the point of having something on right click when clicking on names with left click doesn't do anything at all?

i don't see what the problem is

You also leftclick items, skills(rightclick is autocast), and drag items with left click. You select locations for skills by left-clicks. Only thing you do with rightclick is move or attack, and I do the latter with a + left click.

Because since the dawn of the multi-button mouse and software that supported it, right-click has been the way to bring up a contextual menu. I know here at the Dota Forums we really aren't fans of intuitive controls, but maybe one day, we too can embrace what has been seen as a 'standard' for the last 30 years.

Wow, thank you. I guess many are blinded by because it's Dota 2 and if you find problems with the game then you're just a hater. It's like one of my friend the only replies he has to all the ridiculous things in the game I point out is "well, you get used to it after a few games"....So yeah I'm right, but you get used to it, that's good enough I guess eh?

The way the OP is communicating this idea, He is just asking to get flamed, But I agree. A menu coming up when I left click on something just feels weird. Why not just make it right click.

I, too, have to agree with OP. This happened to me while trying to make people join my party. It's like you don't know whether make a right or left click, so you end up clicking both.

                  +1 for right click menus.

Can you all calm down a bit?

As for the UI, the whole UI needs an overhaul imo but that is after all heroes are ported and outstanding bugs are ironed out.

                      Original poster is correct.

A core UI design principle is consistency.

Context menus should open via right-click, not left.

The UI design and the hero ports are handled by different employees, they can work on both simultaneously.

Actually if you know Valve...they might be the same people.

+1, it happened to me too. Also I think the popup menu should be accessible from anywhere a player name is displayed (for instance, chat messages in dota TV). I actually tried to recommend a player from a dota tv chat.
                          Sorry for my english.

UI overhaul AFTER all heroes get ported? are you mad? they put out 1 hero every week, it will take ages to get them all up and running and UI needs to get fixed right away.
