  • Minimap covers units level on HUD.

    Summary:
As the title (above) states, one cannot see his own, or the level of other units, because the minimap covers it.
    Like this.
    Repro steps:
Start a round of DOTA2, or just open Demo Hero mode.
    Result:
    The minimap covers units level.
    Expected result:
Units level can be clearly seen, without the minimap being half over it.
    Relevant settings:
I thought this might be important. My in-game resolution is 1280x1024, Desktop-Friendly fullscreen.

I hope my format is correct. Thanks.

Bumping this, as it is apparently getting buried without responses.

Open the scoreboard and you can see your own level. You can also play on another resolution like 1280x720 (which you should because you see more of the game in 16:9 aspect ratio than in 5:4).

Another approach might be to decrease the minimap size but I don't know if yours is big or small or whatever.

Yes, I know that I can see my level on the scoreboard. But I cannot see the level of other units on scoreboard, can I? As for changing the resolution, it would be quite hard to see anything on 16:9 ratio, with a 4:3 monitor. Thanks.

The scoreboard shows the level of all heroes in your game (cannot see levels of neutral creeps etc). On another note you should be fine if you play a hero that does not use the 6 skill slot layout:

You have to live with that. 5:4 is not officially supported so take what you can get or bow down and use a better resolution like 1280x720 with black bars on the top/bottom of your screen. Also your screen is not a 4:3 monitor if its native resolution is 1280x1024. Native 4:3 resolution would be 1280x960 or 1360x1024.

Here's 1280x720 screenshot from a similar angle as the above shot:

Just compare the side areas. On the second screenshot you can see all the way to the end of the mid river etc. This is the aspect ratio in which the game is intended to be played.

I just tried other resolutions: They all scale badly with my monitor. It also just scales the picture, without black bars around it.

The best solution is to enable GPU scaling ( AMD / Nvidia / Intel ), then use Dota 2 launch options:
              -fullscreen -w 1280 -h 960
              (for 4:3)
              or
              -fullscreen -w 1280 -h 800 (for 16:10)
              or
              -fullscreen -w 1280 -h 720 (for 16:9).

There simply is no space anymore on the hud, unless the courier quick commands would be re-positioned, and Valve won't do that after we just got used to it, for just a small % of people still running 5:4.

I'm on a Linux Mint system, with custom-compiled 4.9 kernel with support for AMDGPU driver, which I'm using, so your answer does not apply. It might be helpful to someone running Windows, though. I tried searching for GPU Scaling option for AMDGPU, and such thing doesn't seem to exist, or I cannot find it. Thanks

Common... since you use Linux (Mint), your googling skills should be higher than average.
Stuff like this or this or this immediately pops up (should be similar in any Linux distro).
