  • New UI "zooms in" for 1920x1080

This is NOT about the UI so much as it's the fact that the gameplay viewing area has been cropped! As of the new UI being implemented, 1920x1080 has less viewing space of the actual battleground. This is an issue because quite a few people were complaining about the restrictive camera prior to this update.

If you look closely at the corners and along the sides you'll see that ,with the new UI, we've actually lost viewing space (at least on 1920x1080).
Additionally, this update doesn't really get at the core of what most of the UI complaints were about. Namely wasteful space and wanting to be able to see more (of the gameplay field) at once. The top bar is even thicker now, and most of it is wasted space. Personally, I'd like to be able to zoom out a little bit more and have a slightly smaller UI. Most of the data isn't so important as to warrant wasting so much space. The most important data is A: the minimap and B: which heroes are up and down and C: health/mana, and D: abilities and buffs. The rest of it could all slide out of my way for all I care, aside from items with cooldowns.

A few things I want to add. Which are for the most part irrelevant to the core issues listed in this thread.
*There's no reason for the stats panel to be so large.
*There's no reason for the ability buttons to be so large.
*There's no reason for there to even be a background behind the top bar now. Seeing as none of it is text.
*There's no reason that the buttons on the top left can't be squeezed down somewhere on the bottom. Maybe even under the stats or items.

Sort of annoying. Hope this gets fixed shortly.

I'm constantly made to wonder if any of the devs at Valve other than Icefrog have any appreciation of how these kind of things impact the game. It's baffling the changes/fuck-ups that keep being made. Being in beta is no excuse.

How many months was it between the Dire ranged creep bug being brought up and Valve actually bothering to fix it? I get the feeling that they dismissed it as a low priority bug due to not having a clue about Dota.

I have no reason to dislike the new HUD designs...

It's not about disliking them, it's about how the new HUD had chipped away at the viewing space. This does affect your game. It affects everyone's game.

It hasn't chipped away at the viewing space. The area is actually larger, but it's more vertical than it was horizontal. This is caused by a letterboxing effect Valve uses to prevent the game from rendering objects that are blocked by the HUD. By reducing the size of the HUD, it's expanded the viewing area vertically, which causes the zoom effect.

You obviously didn't look at both images. Yes, the gameplay area LOOKS larger, but the viewing space has been cropped to some degree. Look around the edges of both images and you'll see this.

Yes, the new UI is very oppressive and invasive. I honestly don't mind the art style of it - even though to me, it kind of screams HoN/LOL Wannabe - but the intense colour saturation and the "zoom" makes it overwhelm the game.

It's like talking to monkeys, eh? I'm posting here, Neo, to let you know that at least one intelligent human being has read your post, looked at your pictures, and agreed with you. The new UI gives no extra vertical space, it crops the sides off a little bit, and adds a new layer to the bottom that covers up even more playable area than before.

Except the "stats box" being too big, the rest of the HUD is fine, BUT I dislike the zoom on the new version.

His point is still wrong, regardless of the "letterboxing effect" he's talking about. There is less shown all around the screen. Look at all 4 corners, then look at all 4 sides. The new UI has cropped the viewing space all around, by quite a bit actually. If people would read the thread and look at the images they'd understand this.

BECAUSE THERE IS MORE VERTICAL SPACE!

They dont show "more", you see the same vertical area, and since the area is slightly bigger, it will crop horizontal instead.
So even though the hud is slightly smaller, the we actually lost horizontal space, and gained NOTHING. fack!

Please stop asking them to reduce the hud size more, I run 1600 x 900 and this new UI is nearly unreadable for me when playing with that resolution.

Is that your monitors native resolution? 1600 width should be more then enough, but if it isnt your monitors native resolution, it might look like crap. because pixels dont match that resolution.
