+1 this is a must have. We should be able to decide what we need on our screen and what we don't.
This will save a lot of screen space. (space that players need to use for monitoring the game).
Valve you should start working on this....like...right now...

I'm glad to see that this topic got the attention and support it deserves! Now, regarding the supposed 'balance issues' from being able to customize your HUD - could someone please explain EXACTLY what those are? 'Cause I can't seem to think of any.

The issue is supposedly that some people would see more on the screen than others which then would create balance issues. Some people just made this myth that IceFrog said that this is a balance issue, I don't think he actually did. So if some one has some proof I would love to see it. About the balance, I don't see this being an issue at all as all the HUD customization elements should be predetermined by Valve. So any one can go to options and adjust it the way they like it. Of course it would be perfect if others could make their own HUD mods and make them available to others, but it would at least be nice to have predetermined customization to begin with.

You can already modify the hud by editing .res files found within the resource folder, although a non-obtuse less annoying way to modify the hud is always welcome

That's interesting info. Has any one done anything useful this way yet?

That could possibly lead to a VAC ban though, no? If that is one of the files that is hash checked against. I don't know if I'd risk that until official word is given that it's allowed.

I'm not aware of whether it will lead to ban or not. But confirmation from some one who knows would be nice.

also it is important to have same big hud for all players, bigger view is huge advantage

Agreed completely. Both BLC and LoL have scalable HUD, so this should at least have scalability and rearranging certain parts of the HUD.

You are right, a bigger view is an advantage. You know what else is an advantage? Having a monitor with a certain aspect ratio! That's right, on some monitors you will see more of the game than on others! Should we all be restricted to the aspect ratio with the smallest amount of rendered space? No, of course not, that would be absurd. It's equally absurd to restrict everyone to having a HUD that takes up lots of unnecessary space. Yes, seeing more is a miniscule advantage - an advantage WE ALL SHOULD HAVE ACCESS TO. Why should everyone be crippled by a large HUD when nobody has to be? Put another way, if YOU want to see less of the game, why should EVERYONE have to see less of the game?

It's weird to take this as a reference, but COD has a freakin' large widescreen support. People can mount 3 displays, and use them for the game. The others don't seem to complain about it.

In DoTA, the custom hood won't give you an advantage because thew fog of war will step into action. You will still rely on the minimap as much as you rely on the view.

Wards, nearby creeps and your teammates will reveal additional sight around you? If an arrow (or hook) would be coming towards you were the wards are placed then it would be too easy to notice it if you do not even need to move your camera, aight? That is also why you should not let the camera auto follow your hero.

Making the game simpler is not our goal, making the design look simple is a whole new story. Simple look for a complex game.
