  • [SUGGESTION] A HUD option that is really a HUD

HUD (Heads Up Display) should prevent you from having to look at the bottom of the screen. I'd love to see an OPTION for having your health/mana/cds/gold/etc in transparency in the center of your screen. Again, not everyone will like this so I don't expect to force it on people, but I think it could be a nice option to have for those that don't want to keep looking down.

    EDIT: Mockup by tikshow below:

O_O. Next you'll want the minimap layed over with 10 % opacity in the middle of the screen.

It really isn't that hard to see the whole screen at the same time. Also, most of the time you are already looking down on the screen at an angle. Playing with a setup where you look up or straight is downright hard I would imagine.

Actually, I agree with slowreflex. For example, I play without paying attention to the health bar at the bottom of screen. I watch only the bar above my hero (and the number above this bar). So I would like to see an option to show more information in the center of screen.

Oh well I don't have anything against it if people would find it useful but I seriously don't think redundant display of information is going to help people become better at the game. And the most crucial piece of information, the minimap, is at a corner and at the bottom.

Also, a larger pic would perhaps better illustrate the point?

I agree. Modding UI in almost every game is a welcome addition if the developer has time to do so.

I'd agree if it was optional.

I think it would block your vision and interfere with clicking. Maybe it sounds good atm but if you try it in game i think you would quickly remove it
              Work in progress, feedback appreciated

That's why the key is to make it highly transparent. I'm talking about a very very light overlay. Much lighter than that screenshot.

Wow, that can't feel comfortable. Why would you not have your screen at eye level?

interesting, maybe I'll do a concept in photoshop, how do you want to manage camera movements? in this pic the hud works because the camera is fixed behind the character, but in dota the camera is almost always off the center, did you thought a solution for this problem or you want a hud fixed in the center of the screen no matter what?

I think the center of the screen makes the most sense. For example, you may not even have your character in view, but you should still be able to see your health.

If you are knocking up a concept, you might want to keep it simple. One line on left for health and one on the right for mana.

I think if it's overcomplicated with cooldowns, gold, etc. then that would put people off of it (although if you want a second concept version that could work).

Yep do a concept in photoshop so i don't have to if thread gets enough attention

Very transparent may work and is only way to go i think. This may actualy be good for something else. If they implement this for low ar and resolutions they can free up some space in bottom part of the hud and could implement new stuff to widescreen.
                            Work in progress, feedback appreciated

Okay I had some free time, here is the concept:

                              25% transparency:

                              35% transparency:

As you can see I didn't add the 200 hp lines(don't really know much exactly), but if the devs likes the idea they can add it.

                              Some ideas:
                              - Spell icons only show up when they are on cd or you don't have enough mana, and you can specify them, so for example enigmas ultimate have a 180 sec cooldown, you don't want to see it every time that it is on cd, you can disable it, as with the other spells.
                              - Another idea is that the how much mana need for spell is only come up the spell doesn't have a cooldown
