  • Pudge hook indicator - or area indicator

    Hello all,

First of all, let's talk about size of ***: I plaied DotA since 2003 or 4 and LoL for 2 years or so (I don't really have my ruler on me).

I just had ONE game on DotA 2, so I guess this is perfect timing to tell what stroke me first before I become, as half of the people on this forum*, a gozu who will call nooby every other suggestion for making the game more accessible to newcomers.

That said, after checking the first topic and looking on the advanced search, I only this topic related to my suggestion but it's not exactly the same: [Suggestion] Improve interface on AoE spells

So I plaied pudge. When one passes his/her mouse on Hook, one can see the area of reachability (let's call it AoR) by the hook with a green circle - totaly expectable. What is less expectable is once one clicks on it or presses the Q-key, the green circle disappears. It's pretty annoying with this kind of 'mono-directional' spell. Typically, hook is efficient when used at its highest point but I need to pass my mouse over the button to know if the enemy hero is one pixel out or one pixel in the AoR.

It's the same problem with the ulti by the way, so I guess it is also the case for other heroes/spells.

I'm surprised it's never been told yet. Correct me if it was the case.

    Wliwli

ps: I'm gonna play more games with other heroes and update this message with pictures
*: people of this kind are not expected to answer this thread.

So you want green circle always on? There is console command for specific range to be shown at all times and another that show spell range but is really annoying Cant remember then exactly but they are not hard to find. Search tweaked config file thread and you can find them there, its sticky i think.
    Work in progress, feedback appreciated

      This.

And btw, those things should not be implemented, as it ruins the fundamentals of the game. If you want to play LoL, go play it, you can have your green circles there.

Play more, familiarize yourself with the game, get some skill.

The console command for this is:
dota_disable_range_finder 0 - by default you only see the range of spells when you hover your mouse on the spell icon. With this set to 0 it will show you the range when you actually click to use the spell on someone. Default = 1.

Ho ok cool! Thx for the input. I also had hard time finding the setting button. Anyways, it's all cool now.

Why? Because DotA 2 is supposed to be better than the WC3 one, right ? I play LoL a lot, so obviously I got used to know how far it goes (except I now play auto-cast, and I'll change it to DotA as well once re-familiarized so I won't need it anymore... but comments here are for improving the game for everybody, right?).

Making something simple doesn't make it better.

How to bind under one key:
                        1. open console
                        2. write command
                        ?
                        Is there any possibility?
I want command dota_range_display and manually with my hands write 1300 or 800 or other thing. Is there any possibility to make this kind of bind?

                          that would be cheating.
