  • [Suggestion] New Shadow fiend Model!

    Ive know alot of people are tired of talking about this, and you are maybe tired of people complaining about this, but we need to be serious about this, Pudge & Shadow fiend is the biggest trademark heroes for dotA 2.
    This is not only words from me, but from communities, forum threads etc..

    And the community ask for a better shadow fiend! All changes so far has been better, but its not enough!

    Here is a good example of the shadow fiend we miss, its not the proper original, but its badass..

    Sounds like status quo bias to me.

    Now for my opinion: I kinda miss the trails that the HoN version left from its hands....

      I quite like the new shadow fiend model. The problem I have with the hero lies mostly with the animations in my opinion. Here's a quick list:
      • Shadow Fiend no longer has his "swagger", his walking movements now feel extremely stiff. The walking animation in dota 1 was almost like a strut; his movements exerted a sense of power.
      • The attack animation does not look as powerful. The animation is not bad for last hitting, but looks awkward as Shadow fiend looks as if he only uses movements from his arm to toss the attack out; in wc3 dota Shadow Fiend twisted his body a bit more while attacking. Dota 2's attack animation feels more like a jab while in wc3 dota the attack animation was more of a haymaker.
      • Shadow Fiend's razes feel different. I believe its been stated that the timing is the same, but for some reason it feels as if casting razes (especially in quick succession) takes a bit longer then in wc3 dota.
      • A lot of the heroes in the game of had their ability animations improved. Shadow Fiend's razes look pretty good, but could use some changes to make the razes look more threatening (Especially compared to the Zeus lightning bolt).

        I think the razes are fine as they are, the problem with making them so visually powerful is that it becomes screen clutter during intense fights - Razes don't have visual priority. Zeus manages to get away with it because the nature of a lightning bolt is that they appear for only a fraction of a second - if they extended duration of the lightning visual effect, it wouldn't have as threatening of a feel to it.

        I do think that Shadow Fiend does need better animation rigging, particularly in his attacking animation. Needs a more violent thrust of his arm and a slight twist of his body. His model is a bit too... Canine as well, though with slight alterations, I believe SF could be nigh perfect.

          SF in dota2 is a joke, he lost his DotA1 swag. SF is like another hero and should definitively get reworked.

            the feeling on sf in dota 2 is completely different compared with dota 1, its wierd first of all i hate the model and then the animations... specially the razes animations feel wrong..
            he was my favourite hero in dota 1 but i dont like him at all now
            ,,There is no need to have a patch-anticipation-thread one week early, filled with high expectations,,

                dev should have a closer look into sf for all the reasons stated above... one of dota's trademark heroes

                not being biased but some heroes are just much more creative than others

                        most played hero in dota 1 with pudge and mirana and now i barely see him
