T-up. Visage is my most played hero and I would like to see this thing for sure.

I could see that coming from the point I began reading the original post. I think its because this idea just fits the common expectations of players.

        So, yeah, I liked it.

while this is a great idea in itself and i can see how some people might improve their gameplay with this it shouldn't be implemented because in my opinion it is also revelant to the skillcap that is needed with heroes that require above decent micro, i never had this problem ever as im well aware of my familiars current state and their damage and this would just tighten the gap between a visage who knows what he is doing and someone who doesn't/isn't capable of playing visage to his fullest potential. in my eyes that's the same as say add a circle around pugnas manaward that shows the range of the damage it'll deal, just for you. visual stuff like this improves the heroes gameplay in general but also makes it alot easier which shouldn't really be the case because if you can't micro 3-4 units you don't deserve to be at the same level as someone who can.

            -1.

I didn't read your whole post BK2710, just the first line. Affecting the skill requirement was my initial concern as I saw this thread for the first time, too.
But think of the mana bars that have been implemented. This shouldn't really make any much difference than the mana bars under your health bars over the Heroes.

I feel that Visage's skill ceiling relies on decision making for both the hero and the familiars, the current damage buff indicators are quite the chore when you've lost a bit of focus off of your familiars and now need to know how they're standing damage-wise.

Besides, something I forgot to mention is that when you're tabbing through units in a group it's impossible to check their buffers is with the mini-icons on their status bar. You'd need to group up the familiars to have a quick way to check their damage without having to squint, which is still way out of the area you're supposed to be paying attention to.

At this point, the current setup for familiars feels like it's preventing some players from reaching the skill ceiling, rather than setting a standard for it.

put them in different groups? i usually use 1 for my hero 2,3,(4)(5) for familiars and all familiars + hero, doesnt really take long to press 2 3 4 and check the dmgbar, barely takes a second and i never really felt like i would lose the focus in a fight.

That's what I meant. But microing your units that way should be to get more advanced control over your units, not so you can get access to vital info about them.

Like I mentioned in the first post, my main concern is how it distracts your view from the action. You need to shift focus to it because you have to read a really small number. It's particularly hard for me with my 1360x768, but I don't want to make that the pivotal reason for my suggestion since, yes, I could just get a bigger screen.

if you target a single unit to move i think its natural you'll check its dmg/hp automaticly with your eye? ._. and yes a bigger screen might help

Actually, I don't ever check the HP values. Knowledge of the unit's total HP and a glance over their HP bars gives me enough info to proceed. Far as I recall, there isn't any other micro unit that has variable attack damage depending on how many times the unit has attacked so I don't ever feel the need to check on their attack damage because I already know them by heart as well. Since I tend to play around with Visage's familiars and oftentimes send them apart, it's pretty easy for me to miss out on how their damage buffs are standing when I need them back.

Yes, getting a bigger screen might help solve the problem for me, but it's hardly reasonable to ask that out of every dota player should they feel that this also affects their gameplay. Not to mention, even with a bigger screen, your attention is drawn away from the action, which, imo, the UI should never let happen.

Seeing as DOTA finally has it's own engine and doesn't have to work within the limitations of the WC3 engine I don't see a problem with this. The concept of having the heroes challenge being based upon information being hidden from you is far less appealing from the heroes challenge being your own skill in control and decision making.
