  • HUD IS TOO BIG

Title says it all. The hud literally takes up 25% of the screen to show me my heroes face. I don't need that, but I would like 25% more screen. Add a HUD resizing option.

everyone has the same amount of space taken up by the HUD

This is not true. The HUD takes up more space for wide screen players than it does for regular players. Visibility is not the same for different resolutions, and the best way to make it fair is to give players a way to control what parts of the UI are showing.

Not everyone has the same monitor / computer / internet either.

Introducing a scalable UI **IS NOT** a balance issue if everyone has access to the option. This way when a new player get in the game he'll see all the UI stuff he needs to learn, and when he gets better he can make those elements... smaller... Most of the time the top bar is useless.

I would rather have the top bar removed and have my team's heroes on the left side with their health bars, with the enemy team on the right side.

Having a small day/night timer left on the top will be ok.

I agree with this thread, make the HUD smaller, or give us the option to scale please.

Also agreed. Some parts of the UI are unnecessarily big.

Agreed it takes up way too much vertical space.

There should be option to edit HUD like in guild wars 1. You could move any element, remove it and resize it.

TF2 has a minimal HUD option, and i'd love that for dota 2.

Both top and bottom bars are way too big.
Top bar should be removed and a left side bar could be added with useful info like the HP/Mana and spell cooldowns of allied heroes to promote better teamplay.
The death timer on heroes could be added to the scoreboard instead.

Anyways, I think that the best solution would be if the HUD was totally customizable with resize, add, move and delete panels options.

I must admit, the more I play the more I am really hoping there is a minimal HUD option, or that it's scaled down a little. I am at a high widescreen resolution (1920x1080) so I'm likely in a slightly worse situation than some others, but I really am so often finding myself hitting HUD whilst trying to move anywhere.

Also yes, I do think the "but the balance!" option is negated by the completely different aspect ratios already supported by the game.
Just a note, at an aspect ratio of 1.78 (16:9) my actual visible map area has an aspect ratio, at best, of 2.27 (about 16:7)... Bit crazy if you ask me!

This is not a balance issue at all, we're not talking about a hero mechanic, map, item, or spell. It's a Game Setting that would be accessible by EVERYONE.

The HUD is too big, it breaks immersion and awareness.

The argument goes that the game is balanced to allow for a certain amount of vision - there's a reason you can't zoom out, right? If only in very small ways, it can affect what you're able to see.

As I said, I don't support this argument - different aspect ratios mean that people can see different things anyway. But I can see how it would be possible.

The original DotA was constrained by the WC3 engine... Do we prohibit widescreen monitors since the original dota didn't support that ration? It wasn't exactly 'balanced' for view range, the HUD is actually hindering the view.

Here are some screen shot comparisons between HoN and DotA 2.
