  • The HUD and minimap are terrible and old fashioned...

before i startle a lol vs hor vs dota wars here i want the kind of ppl i hate(dota arrogant type of players and lol fanats) to know that both games are good and this suggestion/complaint is based on facts only!!!!
I've played lol before and i still play it same goes for wc3... and compared to lol dota 2 feels like an incomplete beta of a harder lol game...
dota gameplay isnt hard! you dont need to be a geniuss to play it! but it is annoying to play.

    My suggestions:
ALL ARE OPTIONAL! and customizable: you dont have to use them.
    1) Minimap... should be able to be switched to the right side... the diagonal map makes you missclick it when you retreat as the radiant! no matter who you are! you missclicked the map! a right sided map is missclick proof...
what was right in a strategy game that is rotatable is wrong here in a MOBA...
2)UI elements should be clickthrough!!!! this is important! if i want to retreat or attack i want to be able to just shove my mouse to a corner, right click, and move this way! or just use more screen space as my control mechanism. seems legit and currently cuts your commands...
imagine this: your screen is not scrolled enought to retreat(cos of near maximum zoom out you need to see forward right?) and you want to scroll and move at the same time... panning is too slow and moving the mouse to the unclickable corner is... well useless...
3)Make a slimmer hud option(let us change the size) and let us enable zooming out farther. this wont affect gameplay as the fog of war ocludes the enemy anyway...
    4) too much dead spaces in the bottom bar... could have been clickable space.
    5) Give the option to lock camera to the hero... well when the hero is in the center its easier to manuver relative to it. i personally dont use that but many people does and would like that in DOTA 2.
    6) Space button is useless... it was useless in wc3 and it is here... make it bindable to lock into the character like when i long click the portrait in wc3 and here or double tap and hold f11.
without these features i would rather disable the hud completly! as it just interferes!

Now dota players will say... "Hey... you give lol and other players a handicap! its unfair!" no i do not! perfecting you gamestyle has nothing to do with starggling with a stupid and uncomfort HUD! it has to be about perfecting your dota skills and your strategies!
non of what i just said can give anyone in anyway an unfair advantage.
It is unfair to me that you kill me because the game didnt understand what i wanted from it. it is not unfair that you didnt kill me because i just got away like i should have if the minimap wasn't in my way!

A game should be played as the gamer wants it to. that is why customization exists and gaming keyboards and mice are a proof for that.

    5. Yeah a lock camera would be nice.
idk about minimap, it should be ok if u want it on the right side?

while for mouse movement, its game mechanics, and i am pretty sure u know that you have to navigate yourself.
solution: use ur arrow keys and optimize them if u scroll too slow.
Also op, u will get flamed for asking to have an option that helps u escape easier, no matter what you say. unavoidable

      1. Customization is always good
      2. The click through thing is different though, because you can use skills off the UI by clicking them (honestly not many people still do this) or looking at their information.
You can change panning speed iirc
      3. You are wrong, this changes things significantly, because Fog of War isn't something static and can be provided. It needs to be a constant for each screen size or it'd simply give advantages to the one with better resolution.
      4. Agreed
      5. This was an option back in DotA. I'm not sure but I'll take your word that it's not here yet and I support.
      6. You can bind the space key already.

by mouse movement i meant the fact that you cant pan the screen and right click at the same time(in short telling your hero to move while the mouse pans the camera using the edges of the screen... possible right and left not possible up down and diagonal)... and this is because of the screen frame being unclickable...
in lol it is possible. and pretty much convinient.( moving the camera while clicking like a crazy in the middle of a crazy fight is unavoidable!)
using the arrow keys and the qwer asdf keys is impossible to do altogether... the arrow keys are just... there...
the minimap... there is a full thread about this already.. it got flamed by old dota players and welcomed by others. STILL... it should be OPTIONAL!

oh yeah and i forgot about the option to hold the right click to move constantly... it works in wc3(if i remember)... why not here? just a nice option though.. i barely use it but will help newcomers again...

          1) happy you agree...
          2) implemented well in lol and not interfering the other interface elements like skills... still even if you missclick skills. you would have missclicked them anyway... but without getting the result you wanted at all if your mouse was under or above a skill square.
          3) camera zoom has nothing to do with resolution... the opposite. the farther you go the harder it is... but now its just too near! league of legends is fine in that area but still even in lol its too near imo. there was a nice setting for that in age of empires 3 and it was great choosing the very far maximum zoom out(near is default) and it looks and plays great on any screen resolution(you see enough details even on 600x800)!
4)see the new interface of lol for an example of how minimalism and functionality comes togather.. i dont say copy it but something similar... i love the top bar though but it is unclicktroughable(weird word i just made it up).
          5) i just knew that lol took it from dota 1! i needed some evidence. why is dota 2 inferior? devine forces made it that way...(in short beats me...)
          6) still has to double tap it aint i? but yeah thought of that already... but wont that reselect my hero everytime i push it? i mean f1 does that... and what if i want to lock into my donkey or my spawned minions(yes dota 2 calls them like that too)?

is there a command to hide stuff from the ui? and btw how do i use/enable the console? its not like other source games... and last thing.. how to show your ping and fps?(in the last updates of league the fps is always shown.. and ctrl+f brings up the ping in ms it used to bring up the fps meter as well.. not anymore...)

as i said i love the idea of dota more but league of legends is way more polished.
move the minimap and make the frame of the screen(even only the edges of panning) clickthrough and i am happy! right now its just frustrating...

Back in wc3 dota you could use -c to lock the camera, maybe in a future it will be implemented, also remember the game is still in beta and many things will change in the future.

As for the HUD size it is good as it is, thats part of the game.

You can double click your hero portrait to make it follow. Useful for creepblocking.

                1) just because you can't get used to it when coming from a different game, you want to change it so people who actually played from almost a decade ago to change for you?
                2) if UI elements should be able to be clicked through, I dont see the point of a UI being there at all.
                3) slimmer HUD option? everybody plays on the same HUD, if the option of a smaller HUD were available EVERYBODY would get it, it's already compact enough as it is compared to wc3.
                4) too much dead space in the bottom bar, how about you try designing one? all available space has been used so players can quickly get whatever info they need at a single glance, without the need to open other windows.
                5) camera is already lockable, double click on hero portrait. and locking the camera on your hero is something that's frowned upon as it discourages map awareness, something LoLturds obviously lack
                6) KEYS CAN BE REBOUND YOU NITWIT

dota players have loved this UI and HUD for ages, customization exists for things like hotkeying and things seen from a player's perspective, NOT stuff that's common to everybody like the HUD and UI. don't bullshit about the misclick on the minimap leading to your death, your slipperly little hand just needs to work on the precision to help you get away, or use the fucking console to set a delay on the minimap. don't come in with your "I'm not here to start a flame war" shit because the moment you tried to bring retard LoL / HoN elements into the MOTHER of LoL and HoN, the war was already there. get out.

                  5. You can have the camera follow your hero by DOUBLE-CLICKING ON YOUR PORTRAIT.

I'm always surprised by how few people know about this. I wouldn't be able to creep block without it!

smaller hud, more zoom out, and minimap switch all in one thread? awh yeah.

On that note, I've introduced about 10 people to the game. The first thing they (and I) all said? "can i zoom out more?"

Not sure if someone wrote it already - but using the autoexe.cfg you can add a delay to minimap clicks - therefore before being able to send your hero to a place on the minimap your mouse needs to be some places over the minimap for a given time

                        Bumping and further discation ..
The zoom is a problem for my friend too
And still am annoyed by the unclicktrough ui...
Minimap miss clicks are less common now but still Lol and battle for graxia feels better gameplay wise...
Uncomfortable games like data 2 makes it hard to focus the game itself...
