  • *Suggestion* UI Size Scaling

Hello, I have been in the Dota 2 beta for quite a while now, and play it fairly sporadically. My biggest complaint though would be having no way to edit the UI to my preference. If you could create some way for the player to edit the size of the UI to not take up so much of the screen, I think it would be a vast improvement. I play the game on a tv, and it results in such a huge percentage of my screen being taken up by a UI that honestly has no reason to be so big.

Thank you for your time, I hope there are others who feel the same way.

I don't think it's going to happen. The HUD we have now mimics the original hud and is kept constant proportions so that nobody has a visual advantage over anyone else.

Howcome my wife has a larger FOV than me?

That's because she has a bigger monitor running at 16:9 ratio

        I am at a massive disadvantage because I run a 16:10 resolution..

If everyone had the option to resize the HUD then there would be no advantage to anyone.

The difference between widescreen and not is something that can't easily be remedied and just something that has to be accepted. But where things can be forced fair in something that has a big effect in game play, they should. Anyway so what this has been discussed to death already, no need to do so again.

              +1 to this
The argument against a custom scaled HUD being unfair is such an awful one when people with different aspect ratios, by the logic of the argument, do have a 'visual advantage'

There is no need for the UI to be so big. It is just bad layout in 2013. +1

Play in windowed mode with a 16:9 resolution.

                    +1.

If it's adjustable, and as someone said "the smaller UIs will have an advantage", you just have to adjust yours as well... quite simple.

And for the "the Hud mimics the original hud". Dota2 is here to break some limitations that Dota1 had... The huge HUD is one of those limitations that weren't adjustable on Dota1

The difference is the same. 16:9 adds space on the SIDES compared to 16:10. If you think you have a disadvantage, play at my 5:4 screen I currently have

UI-Scaling wont come. The UI mimics the original UI for balance reasons. Behind the UI, dota isn't even rendered, for performance improvements.
The Hud is not a limitation but a balance part.
                      -1

EDIT: That's sort of the same discussion as adding zoom-levels.
If you think I've closed or deleted a post unjustified, feel free to PM me and I'll explain it to you/discuss it with you further.

I agree. Parity with dota1 holds back the game. If nothing can be changed in dota2 why make dota2?
