You can favorite up to 10 heroes by clicking on the star symbol on their cards. Also if you filter the heroes you can easily see the ones you want to play.

Basically a new player will spent some time in the learn tab.Watching a hero`s profile ,and ability videos, decides to tag it with some drop down tag icon and that hero will be highlighted for him/her in the hero pick menu for repeated plays, until deciding to un-tag it or tag another hero.

A minor suggestion that might help me and other new players out a bit.
Tagging your favorite or least favorite/difficult heroes "stay away n00b" or even heroes you like to learn.
When on the hero pick screen grid or card ; your tagged heroes have a highlighted borders, green or yellow or red for instance.

For people who repeatedly replay certain heroes for whatever reason, they will immediately see what hero they played last with or are their favorite and will make their selection in a matter of seconds.I have seen good gamers taking more than 10 seconds looking for that certain heroes which does indicate that it sometimes take a while to get used to the layouts.
You see a few highlighted heroes and instantly know you play well with them.Or you tag the heroes in what difficulty they are to play making you slowly climb the ladder and play more diversely.

But this is a very minor suggestion that might appeal to a low minority.
