      X is perfect.
You are not supposed to see where the enemy is facing.

Just that you already see where they are facing.

I'm not against the suggestion but I don't fully understand why you would need to know where they are facing. I mean this problem only occurs when the hero is standing still, because when they move that's always the front. So for those rare moments an enemy hero stands still, what does it add to see where he is facing?

Why have an X instead of a circle? If everyone is so against the being able to see which way they're going, having it be a perfect circle would further solve the problem of being able to see directions.

Because consistency. This is also the case in spectator mode. And again, you already know where they are facing. The "X" has a brighter side which is the viewing direction of the unit.

why would you need to know that? i don't see a point to it.
this game is simple enough you don't need to make it even simpler.

                  I like the X,

and as far as I see, the minimap is aimed at being easier to read at a glance. If we have circles representing everything, that defeats the purpose.

+1. It doesn't really matter which way they face via minimap, but I'd prefer the arrow over the X.

I think if anything needs to be done, it should be removing X's and making it the same for both teams. I don't think enemies should be marked differently on the map other than color.

                        how about for spectating?
right now if u are spectating, radiant has directions, dire does not, and it's bad

I say just keep it the same as your own team's icon, except outline it as red.

I think what Phroshnite and others are getting at is that the minimap clearly revealing the direction an enemy hero is facing has the potential to make juking much harder for the juker. Also note there's instances where someone is visible on the minimap but not otherwise (such as when bloodseeker's bloodthirst kicks in for a low hp hero in the fog/invisible) or enemy/fog vision is granted only temporarily (spectre's haunt, AA's and zeus's ults, etc). The minimap clearly revealing which direction such enemies are moving at a glance would amplify the magnitude of information granted by such effects.

Ultimately I don't think this is a bad idea, but there's a possibility it would have a significant impact on game balance that should be evaluated. I'd support the idea if it didn't throw things way out of whack in that regard.

I'm OK either way, I think the X is fine and an arrow would be nice too, but the people who're just going "this kind of thing will ruin the Dota scene" (lol) are just dumb.

In any case, they should both be arrows when you're spectating, or at least change between X and arrows depending on which hero you're focusing on.

-1 but +1 if u make it a circle, so u can't c the way they are facing.
