I confirm that this happens on the late iMac 2012 as well. 2gb ram video card, fan goes crazy.

on a side note the games that i used to play in winter w/o problems are overheating macbook in summer. i have to lower the resolution, but also started to look for a gaming laptop to use at home. for someone who is ok with a laptop display the price is not too much higher than a stationary pc + display.

Probably the game isn't optimized yet. For example in Win I have noticed GPU is at 100% load in the end of the match. Probably your issue is something related and there are still some bugs in-game where GPU or/and CPU are 100% loaded with no need.

ive found that (i play on a monitor with keyboard/mouse) if i put a cold beverage (preferably beer) on top of the CPU/GPU while i run games, it'll actually run better (since it's cooling) while the drink is still cold. For extended sessions i sometimes get an ice pack and put it on top of the machine which keeps it running forever.

just some tips for jerry-rigging for those all-day dota sessions

There is a simple reason why the FAN is now so loud in wineskin:

GPU acceleration is working complete different.

My 15" MBP (Mid 2012) has no problems (FPS) at max settings, but its getting loud,too... It should be normal...

    i have 2012 rmbp 15"
everything run smooth and fine in highest setting with 5x fps, no lag, but the fan do make loud noise. (on mac Steam)
However, when i run on wineskin, my fan do make loud noise too. (no lag, etc)

As far as i know, whenever you play intense graphic games on rmbp, the fans will go crazy because the graphic cards will generate a lot of heat and the fan is to keep it cool.
So I think there is no way to make it "quieter".
I think the design of rmbp with gt 650m and retina display will make the laptop really hot.

As in a desktop, there are usually 2-3 fans and graphic card has it own fan too.
rmbp compare to desktop only have 2 smaller fans, so i think it is reasonable the fans go crazy

    Hope it helps.

Exactly. I don't need to check the temps as I know that Dota2 runs perfectly on Wineskin but not on Steam.

started a topic [MAC] The Fan Makes a Hell lot of Noise!

[MAC] The Fan Makes a Hell lot of Noise!

    I'm using a RMBP 13'' Late 2012 version.

I have kept playing dota2 with wineskin and everything works just fine. The fan does not make any noise in matches. The only occasions that I can hear the fan spinning with noise is at "Find Matches" stage(it might involve some FLASH and that's why). To conclude, dota2 with wineskin works just FINE.

I have installed MAC dota2 for over a week now. The fan start howling 15 secs after I enter a match, and the fan starts going mad after 1 or 2 mins in match. It starts to make a hell lot of noise, seems like the fan is running at its maximum speed!

Even with wineskin, the fan keeps very low running speed(which means you can't even hear the fan spinning). However, MAC version dota2 makes the fan running at maximum speed and very very very very LOUD noise.

I couldn't focus on my game anymore, cuz I'm worrying that my RMBP will burn at any moment if I continue to play this MAC version.

Please find what is wrong with MAC version dota2 and please fix it! Thank you!
Working...
