The Gabe Newell Interview F2P/Retail Question.

Wellplayed Interviewed Gabe Newell and he said the business model was still up in the air so what's the general consensus among beta testers? Would you prefer to pay to play or F2P? I'd prefer to just drop 60 bucks and have all content available like SC2 personally.

F2P if they allow all heroes and the payed content is just skins. P2P otherwise. If they adopt a model like LoL I won't play once beta is over.

That isn't the complete TF2 model. You can buy game changing items that you can acquire in the game.

Not a lot of people are willing to shell out $60 for a game that they essentially already own (DotA), especially when there is HoN and LoL as free alternatives - while not nearly as amazing as DOTA 2, they are still playable and fun.

F2P with cash shop is definitely the best business model if they want lots of players and lots of income. The problem is, griefers, trolls, flamers, and smurfs will plague match making.

P2P attracts less bads and trolls.

Once P2P games go F2P the community gets entirely worse and people can just keep on making new accounts to abuse the rules with no sense of being punished or penalized.

The above statement is based off of majority of F2P title communities.

I want the F2P's League of Legends model( you need unlock all heroes with money or grind +10 heroes rotation per week+ cosmetic shop), but with a option for unlock all heroes for 60 american dollars.

I got a feeling it's gonna be F2P because I've seen the Dota 2 heroes Taunts.
In controls, we have the "Use Action Items" and "Use Taunt Items" button config.

Perhaps we have to buy those taunts/cosmetics and etc.
However, I still like the SC2 business model.
