I have this problem too and i tried to trace route to the ip that the game tried to connect to but I get stuck somewhere on the way so to speak.

I do seem to get further than when i tried yesterday tho.

Tracing route to 146.66.152.114 over a maximum of 30 hops

    1 2 ms <1 ms <1 ms READYSHARE [192.168.1.1]
    2 8 ms 10 ms 7 ms Ksk-DOC--Bu50.comhem.se [83.253.128.1]
    3 11 ms 9 ms 12 ms ksk-bb-r-01-to-ksk-ubr-01.comhem.se [83.255.243.17]
    4 17 ms 25 ms 17 ms ksk-bb-r-01-to-mtc-pr-r.comhem.se [83.255.253.10]
    5 56 ms 51 ms 74 ms 195.69.147.23
    6 59 ms 71 ms 59 ms 146-66-154-225.valve.net [146.66.154.225]

EDIT: Ok! I got it to work just now!
All i had to do was go into my Router settings and change MTU to 1500 from 1000

Ditto. Fixes I have attempted so far:

    Resetting router
    Adjusting MTU
Opening every port Dota uses with +clientportany 1
    Reinstalling
    Updating
    Disabling antivirus/firewall
    Connecting through console
    Clearing steam configurations

Nothing has worked so far. I can see the pings of various servers in the list and accept matches, but I time out during the loading screen.

    This solved it for me:
. In Steam right-click on Dota 2 game
    2. Choose Properties
    3. In General Tab click Set Launch Options...
    4. In TextField enter:
    +clientport 80
try different ports if this one won't work some people suggest to use ports between 27005 and 27032
    5. Click Ok
    6. Launch DOTA2 from Steam.
