Right-click your boots and select "lock combining". That feature was added to prevent these interactions (at least for now).
The game has an item priority system, which messes up some items when trying to insta-buy them.

ok, so can you tell me why my boots becaming an arcane boots even if i drop them? i guess its a bug, isnt it?
I do not know why they made the item-combine system not ignore items on the ground.. It's not really helping.
They really should just overhaul the system entirely. It has many issues as of now.
