Actually I know for a fact that sange, yasha, dagon, mkb, bkb all come from phantasy star online... the older references are incidental (where pso sourced the origins themselves) but i remenber playing PSO:Blue Burst after I played dota and all of those came up... here

The hero unit in Starcraft is called Torrasque.
I still want to believe that those names are connected.

"Nevermore" is also the name of a black metal band, and it's copyrighted for sure : D

Aegis of the Immortal - A shield carried by Athena. This is wrong, it is a cape wore by Athena, not the shield.

A whole thread about that "copyrighted names" bull****.
Names and words are NOT subject to copyright, except for using them as a trademark -- and then it only become a case if trademarked name is used in the same context (i.e. applicable to the product and/or company). For example, calling a fictional game character "Nevermore" does not create any grounds for a law action from the aforementioned band.

That said, it still doesn't change the fact that Valve tends to overzealously avoid any Blizzard-related references, mostly because they either reached a legal agreement with them or they are carefully try to avoid creating a background for a possible law action (however improbable and futile) based upon Dota 2 being a derivative work of various Blizzard games.

Rattlerap, Clockwerk Goblin (In Dota 2 - he is not anymore goblin) - One of the Maximals on Transformers: The Beast Wars. His beast form was that of a rat.
The Beastwars character was named "Rattrap".
I do appreciate your list and look forward to any other information you find.
In the future will you add a list of all the character's alt names? (E.G. Clinkz Eastwood)

Because the band didn't create the name.
