SFM2 does not output OpenDML-compliant AVI files
The OpenDML specification allows AVI files greater than 2GB. Right now an AVI file from the Source 2 SFM will be corrupt if it goes past 2GB, or it might even output a 0kb file instead (though I think that might be an unrelated bug? not sure)

Here's what VirtualDub has to say about a 3.5 GB AVI file from the SFM

Thankfully, VirtualDub can repair this issue, and it's an effective workaround for the time being. (Make sure "direct stream copy" is used.)
As a sidenote, if you're wondering why I'm not just using a PNG sequence, it's because
1) they have a lot of overhead in After Effects, slowing down preview performance a lot
2) the SFM stalls the rendering of the next until the current frame is compressed (which takes a long time) and written to disk, which slows down rendering compared to AVI files the greater your res is
AVI container with a lossless codec like UT Video RGB is the best way to go as far as I'm concerned
