I think he is made of that green substance that is 'gel' like because it suits him as a character. He is able to adapt and steal spells, using them as his own. He is sort of like an ameoba.

As far as his model and twitching, it is fantastic. Best looking hero in the game IMO, LOVE that he has those shopkeeper sandals.

As for his head the lore tells you he is wearing a combat mask, meaning it is not his face. As for his appearance, that is what he looks like now as Grand Magus. He probably did not have that appearance before, I would assume only after becoming a GM did he gain such an appearance due to magic etc. (Use your imagination). That would be my reasoning for his 'gel' aspect.

Just want to say it again, excellent job Valve best looking hero. <3 the feet.

Edit: Also since he has human feet, I would believe it to be safe to assume he is human. A reason for him living so long is that Magic users seem to live much longer then your average being. Invoker, KotL comes to mind.

Oh my, I have somehow managed to miss the mask part in the lore. Oh, well, it pretty much brings the possibility of him being not human close to extermination.

Still, I'll have to disagree with nearly every opinion of yours on the looks of his, goddamn that twitching is weird.
Heroes this user should seriously reconsider ever picking again.

Invoker cast basically the strongest longevity spell in the universe on himself. This spell may very well have been lost as ages went by and I'm not even sure if the current form of magic would be able to cast spells the way Invoker does so perhaps magi in the present day aren't even capable of casting it.
KotL is most likely going to be turned into the Fundamental of Light which means he's immortal. And also not a human.

I would argue he's radiant because he represents a "fountain of energy" of sorts that can absorb and release others' abilities at will. Radiant to me represents a quality of bursting with life, light, energy, power, etc. - literally radiant, and he fits that sense of it pretty well.

I'll admit he sounds very ruthless in his lore, which I'd agree is a dire quality, though.

Maybe Rubick stole it and used it on himself too; his rival lines suggest he knew Invoker a long, long time ago.

I really like the lore though, and I think it does explain his motivations: Rubick is actually a very competitive person, that likes to challenge himself and try new things. Probably why he specialised in using other spells is because, by his very nature, he doesn't want to be confined in only ever using a single type. Which goes well with his twitching, the man cannot stand still. Now he's Grand Magus, he probably got bored with his fellow wizards and is now determined to get his kicks by copying the greatest heroes of the world. All in all, the different aspects fit well together to make him a rather unique character.

The twitching did initially freak me out though xD

I'm with Nicoman. He was human or something along those lines, but got the gel stuff on him at a later point because of his abilities.
If the gel is part of his race, and, if it being part of its staff as well is any indication, it is related to the nature of his powers - then his lore doesn't make sense. The other magus would have been able to know to expect ability copying from him during the great duel. He would have never been able to beat them by turning them against each other.

Also, more conventional explanations aside - He might be for Radiant side for a mere geographical reason, same one I gave for batrider. He was born on a Radiant aligned civilization so he feels compelled to fight for a Radiant Ancient.

Btw, anyone else get reminded of Birds when looking at that head bobbing. I think not even turkeys do it that intensively though. He's definitely on some substance.

    OT:
As always, VALVe didn't fail to deliver a great piece of fiction.

I think that KotL will end up being an avatar of Light at best, not really a fundamental himself. His ultimate may be something along the lines 'Ezalor becomes Light made flesh', but that's about it imo.

    Two questions about Rubick

Forgive my Rubick noobness, but i was wondering...
    1) For spell steal, can Rubick target allies or is it only enemy heroes?
    and,
    2) Does aghanims scepter work with Rubick, does it give you the upgraded ults of the person you spell steal?

First - only enemies, of course. Bugged as of just right now, but this surely will be fixed.
Second - doesn't work, you automatically steal upgraded ultimates if they are upgraded.

And yeah... This is the lore thread, kind of sort of, you could have checked here, most importantly in the guides section there's a couple of really good ones.
Heroes this user should seriously reconsider ever picking again.
