    [Confirmed] Templar Assassin Meld not doing enough damage when TA has a Desolator

    (Note: The linked thread and the first two and a half pages or so of discussion here were originally made in the Test Client Bugs forum, because this issue was introduced in the most recent Test Client update and carried over to the main client when the patch went live. The issue still exists in the main client, the below text in this post has been updated to reflect this. Apologies for any confusion.)

    (Linked thread in original post) http://dev.dota2.com/showthread.php?t=48608

    Relevant research/testing can be found in the following posts: here here here (post originally made 1 patch ago, about a different issue, but numbers from WC3 DotA are still relevant)

    tl;dr summary of the issue: In WC3 DotA, when TA has Desolator, the order in which the Meld damage and the attack damage are dealt is reversed. Without Desolator, the attack damage is dealt, then the Meld debuff is applied, then Meld deals damage. So only Meld damage benefits from the Meld debuff, the attack damage does not. This is correct in the current live patch. However, when TA has Desolator, this order is reversed, so first the Meld debuff is applied, then Meld deals damage, then the Desolator debuff is applied, then the attack damage is dealt. So the attack damage benefits from both the Desolator and Meld debuff, whereas the Meld damage benefits only from the Meld debuff. This was correct in the previous live version of Dota 2, but is not correct in the current live version. The interaction of Meld with Desolator was broken when the update was applied fixing Meld dealing too much damage; in the process of making this fix, the interaction with Desolator was broken.

    Post this in the main bugs area, it is not a Test issue.

    No, this is an issue in the test client. The interaction in the main client is fine, they broke it in the test client when they tried to fix Meld doing too much damage.

    Well as you said you were pretty much ignored last update, so trying it again is unlikely to do much.

    If at first you do not succeed, try and try again. There are a lot of bugs for them to fix, it'd be silly that they're going to fix every bug posted with each update. Whether it was ignored last time or not, it IS an issue, and it IS significant, so why shouldn't it be reported?

    Fair enough, but after all this time are you sure it's a bug and not a fix from Dota 1 to 2?

    Yes. And until such time as some developer tells me it's not a bug, I'm going to assume it's a bug. Not only that, if it is an intended change, it's a fairly decent-sized nerf. Lanaya's weak spot is her late game damage, and this change amplifies that weakness.

    It's a difference between the games with a balance effect on the hero. Until a dev confirms it as a fix, it's best to assume that it's a bug.

    Sure, I agree, but, this topic has been posted repeatedly, and not fixed. Can we just forget about it, they have seen it, posting it more won't help. If it gets fixed it gets fixed if not than to bad, its now a change.

    I wonder if this will make it into todays patch. Maybe the devs are still figuring thing out. Its true that lanaya was a bit overpowered for 2 weeks but I rather not see another week where she in turn is underpowered.

    @zath

    Neither are you a mod or directly contributing to this issue so I don't understand why you suggest to drop it.
