    items.txt moved or gone?

    <path to steam>/Steam/steamapps/common/dota 2 beta/game/dota/scripts/npc/items.txt

(You might need to replace "dota 2 beta" with "dota 2", depending on when you installed it.)

This file doesn't appear to exist any more. Anyone know where it's gone? In fact the entire scripts folder no longer contains any files for me.

Failing that, does anyone have an alternative way to automatically get item ids and costs? I'm thinking in a worst case scenario I might have to scrape the wiki for them.

Just FYI, it is gone from the Dota 2 Test client as well.

If you want to customize your suggested items, try this: http://dev.dota2.com/showthread.php?t=10751

You're right, the folder you said does not exist for me either. I recognized you mention a /game folder, which my Steam does not contain at all.

(DLRevan): Currently, the data files, as well as all other scripts, are now found inside the VPK files in the Dota 2 directory. You may use a tool such as GCFScape to open these files and view the scripts.

Also, there's a download link there.

    Sorted, thanks Wiener

Incidentally I found this (by the same guy who makes GCFScrape) to be the best tool for the job, since it's easy to use from the command line or a script: http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?p=35
